Greenwood Village, CO – The Aurora Central Trojans Track and Field Squads opened the 2018 outdoor season at the Aurora City Championships, hosted at the Stutler Bowl. The men’s and women’s squads both finished in 10th place in the season-opening competition. Grandview High School swept the men’s and women’s city championships.
The Trojans finished with a team score of 4 points thanks to a 5th place finish in the shot put by Mike Thompson. The junior made the most of his season debut with a personal best throw of 40 feet 1 inch. Other top 10 finishers include the boys 4×200 meter relay team (10th), the 4×800 meter relay team (9th), Malachi Owens in the High Jump (tied for 8th), and Anthony Alvarado in the Pole Vault (9th).
The Lady Trojans finished in 10th place with a team score of 3 points thanks to a 6th place finish in the 4×800 meter relay by the team of Serenity Torres, Jessica Aguilar, Angelica Johnson and Lizbeth Montoya. The relay was the lone top ten finish, but the Lady Trojans other notable performances on the day included 14th and 11th place finishes by Lizbeth Montoya in the 400 and 800 meter dashes, respectively. Montoya debut with a 2:46.36 in the 800 and a 1:11.49 in the 400.
