Aurora Central athletics is fortunate to have the ELEVATE program available to our student athletes. The ELEVATE program, hosted by the nonprofit Heart Power Inc., supports underprivileged high school students in a variety of aspects for college preparation. The students receive ACT preparation, athletic training, mentorship and lessons in life skills.
Professional athletes from various NFL teams and TV sports personalities have shared their life experiences in athletics and knowledge of what it takes to be successful on and off the sports venue.
All of the participants attend a weekly Wednesday night meeting with tutoring, speakers and then attend a half day athletic training session on Saturdays. Champ Kelly, President of Heart Power shared with the students that “It is a privilege and not a right for you to be a part of this program. This will change your life.” The expectations provided to the ELEVATE members stress sportsmanship, participation standards related to attendance and dependability, personal responsibility and honesty, to name just a few of the guidelines. Students are also required to complete community service and give back to their community as a part of this program.
In December 2014, twenty ACHS athletes completed the first session of the program. A second session began recently and we hope to have more athletes involved. If you want more information, please check out the web site http://heartpowerinc.org . This is a unique opportunity available to the student athletes at Aurora Central and we encourage students and parents to learn more about the program and apply to be a part of this incredible opportunity.
